Swedish Apple Pie

An exquisitely tasting twist on the Apple Pie

Ingredients:

  1. pinch of salt
  2. 1 1/2 pounds Gala apples, peeled and sliced (about 3 large apples)
  3. 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  4. 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  5. 1 tablespoon heavy cream or half and half
  6. Apples:
  7. Pie Topping:
  8. butter, to grease pie plate
  9. 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened to room temperature
  10. 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  11. 1/4 cup brown sugar
  12. 1 cup all purpose flour
  13. 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  14. 1 egg, beaten
Directions:

Apples:
Spread a thin coating of butter onto a 9 inch pie plate with wax paper.

Place sliced apples into a large mixing bowl. Combine brown sugar and cinnamon and pour over the apples. Add heavy cream and gently toss to coat.

Pour and arrange apples into the buttered pie plate.

Pie Topping:
Cream butter. Add sugars and cream together until smooth.

Mix in flour, vanilla, salt and the beaten egg.

Spoon the cake-like batter over the apples and use a flat spatula to spread evenly.

Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 - 50 minutes.

Serve with scoops of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
